Read MoreEbony Stain creates a very exotic finish by allowing the wood's beauty to remain visible while adding color. It looks great on everything from large pieces of furniture to small picture frames, decorative boxes, and other small objects.
Stain protects and preserves the beauty of your wood compared to paint which covers and hides it. Paint coats the top of the wood while stain penetrates the wood. Paint can peel, which requires extensive scraping where stain may gradually wear away and need a periodic re-coating.
Our client wanted to refresh her entire bedroom set. It had a traditional brown wood finish that we removed using a water-based stripper. The next step, sanding, is the most important as we need a smooth surface with no blemishes because the stain will highlight scratches and dings in the wood. We always sand down to clean wood before applying any stain.
After applying the first coat of stain, we allow it to be absorbed and then wipe off any excess. We sand any areas that need it and apply another coat of stain before sealing the color with the first coat of finish.
Once the first coat of finish is applied, it is lightly sanded. Toner is used, as needed, to maintain a consistent color before the next coat of finish is applied.
The stain will last as long as the finish that protects the color.
Surfaces Rx uses a high-solids, pre-catalyzed lacquer. It cures to a tough and durable finish impervious to water and other liquids. Pre-catalyzed lacquers don't get cloudy or yellow as it ages, and it is super low maintenance and generally require no additional care.
Upon request, a water-based urethane or hand-rubbed danish oil is also available. I recommend applying an additional coat of lacquer every few years to keep it looking new and fresh.
While hardwoods are naturally beautiful and require no stain to enhance their beauty, an ebony wood stain provides a beautiful, rich dark color.
Ebony stains are formulated for all hardwood species, including Oak, Maple, Cherry, Walnut, and more! Any hardwood can be finished with Pre-catalyzed Lacquer.
When applied, you will see a deep black color that is uniform across your entire piece of furniture. You will also notice a sheen or wet look typical with high-solid lacquers.
