Surfaces Rx was awarded the Millwork Refinishing for 3525 Turtle Creek, a Dallas High-Rise. The owners wanted to restore a wall of quarter-sawn oak wood panels that were originally installed in 1957. Over the years it had been touched up by the previous owners, but never fully refinished.
Before, During, and After Pictures of Millwork Refinishing
Surfaces Rx refinished all the millwork in the home, which included both sides of the walls, the frame and the beams. The damaged wood was hand-sanded, repaired, stained, sealed and finished.
Refinishing millwork is an art and an a science and there are many challenges. In this case, it's all the more tricky when working on the 21st floor of one of the tallest, largest, and most luxurious apartment ever erected west of the Mississippi when it was completed in the late 1950s.
Challenges of High-Rise Millwork Refinishing
Access to the refinishing site is restricted to certain days and hours and Surfaces Rx must pass through a security checkpoint. Then take a service elevator to the residence.
The hallway access to the home must be protected and must be taken up at the end of each day.
While refinishing the millwork, Surfaces Rx has to manage dust, noise, and odors by coordinating with the building management and other contractors.
Surfaces Rx makes wood look good!
